Stories

Past President Jenny Acopian was our chair for the evening and we welcomed Robyn McLean and we were delighted to have Angela Humphrey with us whilst she is in from Cambodia.

The Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Clinic

Our guest speaker was Phil Quick who is a Rotarian with Bayside (incoming chair of the Youth Exchange Committee) and project manager with D & E Airconditioning and Phil spoke to us about the construction of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Clinic.

The site has had 1,200 workers at its peak activity with the highest importance given to cleanliness and infection control to protect patients with compromised immune systems.

It is a massive project with construction scheduled for completion in September and from the start of 2016 it will run for 6 months without patients to make sure everything is operating correctly before patient are admitted this time next year.

Those who recall the political career of Jim Hacker will remember the hospital which run most efficiently without any patients. Will the Andrews government adopt the same approach?

Phil provided an amazing “fly through” computer generated tour of the completed building which is located on the former dental hospital site adjacent to the University of Melbourne.

Changing Places

President Elect Andrew reminded members of the changeover on 7 July.

Andrew needs no reminding as he is the changee (as Bruce King, the changor regularly reminds him).

An attendance sheet will go around at each meeting and members are welcome to bring families and friends.

Pay Early and Win….maybe

Susan Dunlop explained that the Club will have a weekly raffle draw for those who pay their annual subscriptions ($200.00 for the workers and $190.00 for the worked out) early.

You can pay your annual dues in cash, by cheque or by the miracle of the internet with a direct credit to the Club account.

Our 16 June meeting

Warren announced that 16 June will be a night to bring genuine potential members (“GEPOMES”) will have their meal cost met by the Club.

Friends or people interested in the night's speakers (“FOPINS”) are equally welcome but FOPINS pay their own way.

If you have a GEPOME or a FOPINS you would like to bring along, please email David Sykes.

We will have excellent speakers with the emphasis on issues in our Eastern Geelong region:

Tania Dudas Youth Coordinator, City of Greater Geelong who will tell us about the WAY Group, a Whittington based youth group building their community including supporting FlameFest; and

Leanne Napper, Manager NDIS, Karingal - Project Leader  who is working with the development of East Geelong Community Centre.

Attention: Attendance

Attendance supremo Satbir circulated attendance figures to those members with attendance percentages in the high 70s to high 90s and has asked those members to check their missed meetings information and say yah or nay so the annual attendance report can be finalized.

We thanked Satbir for the donuts.

Public Relations Committee Report

Chris Adam announced that the pull up banners are available to use for Club events and members are encouraged to use them to publicize the Club and its good works.

We have 206 members on Facebook and this gives us great exposure and detailed information about who sees our Club out and about.

The new style caps and polo shirts are up for comment and the hip hop hoodies are hot. You can also get bucket hats to fit your particular bucket.

We will have 2 marquees with detachable panels which will double as Club advertising.

Chris has the 2015-2016 Club letterhead and sign up sheets for members' use.
