Passing of David's father, James Harrold Sykes
We are saddened to hear of the passing of the father of Past President David.
As David said, his father had a fulfilling 90 years with lots of memorable experiences and our thoughts are with David, Liz and the Sykes family at this sad time.
Meetings at Eastern Hub in June
This is a reminder that for the month of June we will hold our weekly Club meetings at The Eastern Hub, 285A McKillop Street, East Geelong.
Because of the nature and size of the catering enterprise at The Eastern Hub, we will not have the same latitude with numbers attending as we have been enjoying with Buckleys.
It is therefore more important than ever that Rotarians call through their apologies and extra numbers attending by the midday Monday deadline.
The phone number for apologies and extras remains as before.
Also, any special dietary requirements need to be notified.
The meeting times are unchanged (6.00 pm for 6.30 pm) and there will be an induction at 6.15 pm (location of toilets, exits etc) on our first meeting there this coming Tuesday 7 June for those who would like to "know where to go to go".
For our trial month, we will sample an arrangement of a main course only and a two course meal (entrée and main, main and dessert) with finger food on one night.
The meal costs which members will pay will be $20.00 for the one course and $25.00 for the two course.
At the end of the month, the Club will review the experience at The Eastern Hub.
We will return to Buckleys for our Changeover.
Our Program for Tuesday 7 June
We will be presenting the Club's Gordon Technical College Scholarship are our first meeting at the Eastern Hub.
Changes to our meeting procedures for consideration at our next Club Assembly
Could or should or why would we dispense with some or all of the following:
What effect would those changes make? Would it make our Club more appealing to younger people? Or to people from diverse backgrounds and cultures? Is the direction to felines which follows the singing of the Anthem ("Go Cats") appropriate? Should it replace one or other of the above? Let's talk about how we do Rotary at our meetings.
Dining with Dorothy
The International Service Committee is reviving the Friday night international nosh with Italy at Cucina One12, 112 High Street, Belmont on 22 July.

Scarf-face
This is a desperate and pathetic play on words....but marginally better than "Faulty Towels"....to remind you about Terry (Towelling?) Thornton's 4,000 Not Quite Right But Otherwise Excellent Winter Scarves which can fall off the back of a truck and into our hands and on which must be performed a labelectomy and we then distribute them (the scarves, not the labels) to those who can distribute them to those in need.
It is a condition of us getting the goods which don't make the cut that we make the cut so perhaps a "snip and sip" can be arranged?
An excellent opportunity for Rotary to assist those in need and prevent otherwise good and useful items going to waste.
....now, about those 4 million diesel Golfs.....
International Rules Merchandise
Robert Wheeler, through his son in law Mark Evans at the AFL, has managed to secure a quantity of AFL International Rules clothing which can be purchased at very competitive prices with all proceeds going to support Shelter Box.
Our Club in Our Community
Jenny reported on another very successful Fifth Monday at Christ Church when members of our Club work to provide meals for those in need.
Our Club provided support recently for The Open House mentored music project at The Courthouse Arts facility.
This was organised by Bron Lawson and her team at Athena's Guild and we provided the rehearsal catering and Brendan from our Rotaract Club assisted with the ushering.
Our Club received excellent publicity and we thank Jenny for getting our Club involved.

Rotary Leadership Institute
This is a training program and resource for Rotarians who would like to know more about operating an efficient and productive club and getting more from the Rotary experience.
It is conducted over 3 separate days across the District and a number of our members can attest to the value of the program. See PE Janine for more information. Our Club will cover registration fees.
R.J. Vague Award
Members are invited to bring forward nominations for this award which recognises community service and honours the wonderful contribution to the Geelong community by our esteemed charter member, the late Bob Vague.

Defying The Drift
The vigour and viability of rural communities is a subject close to the heart of our great friend and fellow member, Stan Deans and hence Stan's enthusiasm and commitment to the Defying the Drift program which takes place at Marcus Oldham Farm Management College over 3 days.
It is designed for Year 9 and 10 students to encourage interest in careers which have a rural focus - whether farming and agricultural, health, the environment, teaching, commerce etc.
Members are asked to promote the program and Stan can provide more information and application forms.
The cost is minimal ($150.00 per student) and the potential return on this investment is incalculable.
