Past President Chris Adam was our chair and we welcomed fellow Rotarians Anton van Dornik and Graeme Hawkins and our Rotaractors.

Bowelscan
Rotarian Graeme Hawkins from the Rotary Club of Geelong West and the chair of the District 9780 Bowelscan Committee spoke about the program.
Rotary promotes it to the 40s as opposed to the NHMRC which targets the over 50s and of the 391 positives last year about 7% was in the under 40's.
The Rotary program has a much higher kit return rate than the Commonwealth national bowel cancer screen scheme.
Fewer men return the kits and more men produce positive results.
Bowelscan is easy and it works. The funds generated from the price increase has been put into advertising and research. The non-Rotary kits are approaching $40.00 and there are path labs who provide a screen test on medical practitioner referral so we are getting excellent value.
We salute Graeme and his District Committee for their dedication to saving lives in the simplest way.

Donations in Kind
Anton spoke on the latest on Donations in Kind (DIK) and he is looking for a publicity officer to help spread the word.
Anton is going back to Sariri Village with the eco-friendly toilet system designed with the assistance of Barwon Water.
Everyone is welcome at DIK on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and particularly during winter.
There is a need for ladies who can sort and check the operation of sewing machines and similar.
A $2,000.00 cheque was presented to Anton from our Club's International Service Committee to assist in the work of DIK.

Bowelscan - Get Behind It

Chair Chris Adam reminded us that May is Bowelscan Month and we should all be moved to take the test and encourage those near and dear not to fear the smear.

Rotaract
The incoming Rotaract Board was introduced and presented a request for funding to attend district training which involves transport costs and days off work.

Public Relations
Chris presented our new Club banners.

Reports and Requests
Tony reported on the Science and Engineering Challenge which was once again a great success.

Fellowship of Cruising Rotarians is open to all Rotarians and Tony Alsop has more information.

Adrian reported on the previous weekend’s pony club catering which generated a profit of $500.00 and some very valuable public relations. We were able to put the left over goods to good use via the Rotaractors and their school breakfast program.

David Sykes is looking for those interested in assisting in compiling the Annual Report from next year.

Bernadette reported on her experience of District Assembly and as one amongst 20 new members of Rotary clubs in our District (including 15 in their 30s) it looks like Rotary in our part of the Down Under is up and running.

From the Fundraising Committee

Chair Roger invites a member or members who would like to take over the Ballarat South Raffle work within our Club including accounting for tickets and sale proceeds, arranging the venues and the rosters to make contact with him.

Assistance will be plentiful from those who have gone before being Ron and Anne Carroll and Ross Taylor.

Entertainment Book order forms are out and about and the EBs are great value again this year. See Tony Alsop or Graeme Fleet.

Rotary Club of Drysdale - 14 May

Members enjoyed the friendship of the 40^th Anniversary Celebration Dinner of the Rotary Club of Drysdale at Club Italia, 515 Bellarine Highway Moolap on Thursday 14^th May.

Giving for Living

Don't forget that the toiletries for Christ Church are very popular so keep traveling and donating and remember that Sarah Kenworthy is collecting pencils and pens for her schools in Uganda so cast around at home and gather together those promotional pens and send them off to do good work overseas.

Members are reminded that if you are unable to attend a meeting for which you have been rostered to carry out a task, it is our responsibility to arrange with another member to get the job done.
