What do you call a night when the main event is "abandoned", well it is associated with the sailing fraternity? Yes, thanks to PP Bruce, the meeting was rescheduled from our normal Tuesday to the Wednesday night so our members could participate in an "on water" activity & thus be prepared for our DGs visit on 27 Oct (DG Jane conference theme is associated with the sea).

Unfortunately mother nature & the old salts at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC) had other ideas as the sailing (on water bit) event was abandoned so the loyal members who attended (attendance officer Satbir has a list of who was there) were able to participate in a lively discussions about the events of the world.

It was found that one of the highlights that Bruce had arranged was the free parking (actually Geelong Cup public holiday) but some of our members took full advantage as they were in attendance from early in the afternoon.

The table where your trusty scribe was discussed topics that revolved around such diverse areas as the booze bus on the roads near some particular racecourse and how many had not understood the implications of what they may have had to drink or worse still "taken" for a "trip". Another topic was how we communicated, as Luca (exchange student), was relating how he was able to keep in touch with friends & family via Skype, some members related experiences with Morse code & something called the "party line" which had Luka (plus some members wondering about the good old days!

It was found that the meals at the RGYC were of sizes that truly put paid to a light supper at home afterwards, in fact there was even an extra meal served up just to be sure there was adequate! It was no surprise however to see PP David Sykes with the first dish served up, but to the catering staff credit all meals were served in a prompt & efficient manner.

A great night was had by all that attended and to answer the question posed earlier it is Fellowship & fun.

We will move our meeting again this year to join with the Rotary Club of Geelong Central on Melbourne Cup eve in a fundraising event for the Geelong High School music program and Habitat for Humanity.

The venue is the North Geelong Football Club.
