Dining with Dorothy
The International Service Committee is reviving the Friday night international nosh with Thai at the Elephant and Tusk restaurant in Thomson Street, Belmont on Friday 27 May from 6.30 pm. It's BYO wine and mains are around $20.00.
Then on 22 July, we're off to Italy at Cucina One12, 112 High Street, Belmont.

Swap Meet - 14 May

Christ Church Meals
Monday 30 May is Our Fifth Monday and all are welcome to assist with the Christ Church Meals project with further details available from Jenny.
International Rules Merchandise
Robert Wheeler, through his son in law Mark Evans at the AFL, has managed to secure a quantity of AFL International Rules clothing which can be purchased at very competitive prices with all proceeds going to support Shelter Box.

International Night
The International Night is on the 31st of May. The theme will be Cambodia. The event will be at Buckleys. There will be a Cambodian contribution to the meal by Angela and Bryan to give some Khmer flavour. There will also be a take home gift for all attendees from Cambodia. Members are encouraged to invite partners, family, friends and prospective Rotarians to the event. The guest speaker for the night will be Bryan with assistance from Angela.
Changes Over
Our Change Over is Tuesday 5 July.
The District Change Over will be held on Sunday 26 June at Truffleduck, 66 Hyland Street, Fyansford 12.15 pm for 12.30 pm. with bookings required by 16 June. DG Jane Cox has more details.
The Rotary Club of Ocean Grove are changing over on Tuesday 28 June 6.30 pm for 7.00 pm at the Ocean Grove Bowls Club, 18 The Terrace, Ocean Grove.
The cost is $35.00 per person for a 2 course meal with drinks at bar prices.

Meet the RI President 2017-2018
A lunch is to be held in Melbourne on Sunday 19 June to farewell our own Ian Riseley and Juliet as they head off to the US where Ian will prepare for his role as RI President 2017-2018. The lunch is a multi District venture for the 5 Victorian Districts and The Dunlops and Terry T will be attending.

Service Committee Report - Youth and Community
Committee chair Sam reported on the activities of these committees.
The Pride of Workmanship Award honours a person who exemplifies an outstanding work ethic and commitment to his/her profession/trade/business and this year's award was presented to Jo Coles from Buckleys.
The Trainee of the Year Award honours a young person who has overcome adversity to complete a period of training and who goes on to serve their community and the Committee encourages Rotarians to propose recipients for next year's award.
Defying the Drift is a program aimed at encouraging young people to seek careers in agriculture. It includes a 3-4 day camp at Marcus Oldham College, Geelong in September 2016
Secondary School Scholarships/Bursaries support further education and awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and service to their school community at Geelong High School and Newcomb Secondary College.
The awards are $1,000.00 per school.
The Science and Engineering Challenge is an annual event that invites secondary schools of the District and beyond to participate in challenging scientific exercises.
Once again, thanks go to Tony Alsop for his co-ordination and stewardship of this excellent program and the Rotarians and friends who helped out on the days of the activities.
Adrian Innes and Graham Thomson are longstanding supporters of and active members of the committee for the Shine On Awards in our District and we were delighted that our nominee Liam O’Neil was successful.
Unfortunately, we have not received nominations for RYLA or RYPEN this year.
The Gordon Scholarship is new to our Rotary Club and the first year that we have sponsored the awards.
The Award was presented to Brock Joass and Brock and Sarah Johnson the Student Scholarships and Welfare Coordinator will give a presentation to our club in June.
The National Youth Science Forum program 2016 will be held in Canberra and George James is promoting the nominations process with our local schools.
The Dinner Auction
David Sykes will circulate a form for members to nominate a deserving cause or causes (under specific criteria) as beneficiary of the auction which will be held in late August.
Members are asked to have the forms completed and returned by 23 May so the Board can make a decision on the beneficiary at the 24 May Board meeting.
Not The Winter Ball
Warren advised the members that tickets can be purchased for this Not Night of Nights using the link provided in the email.
You are encouraged to share and "Like" on Facebook and help to raise funds for the new Eastern Hub facility at Karingal.
Rotary Leadership Institute
This is a "Warren-warranteed"activity which actually does take place!
This is a training program and resource for Rotarians who would like to know more about operating an efficient and productive club and getting more from the Rotary experience.
It is conducted over 3 separate days across the District and a number of our members can attest to the value of the program. See PE Janine for more information. Our Club will cover registration fees.
Giving and Giving Back
Our Club provided the facilities and five of our members for a sausage sizzle at the recent athletic sports at Christian College.
The College has a program of fundraising to assist community groups.
Vicki Hayden from the College and student Sophie De Rosso and her mother Rosa attended our meeting and we were presented with a cheque for $1,000.00 raised from that activity which we can use for our charitable works.
We thank the College and the students for this most generous donation.
Sophie's family provide great support to our Club's Hamburger Stand through their Porter Avenue Hot Bread business.
R.J. Vague Award
James Dunlop reminded members to bring forward nominations for this award which recognises community service and honours the wonderful contribution to the Geelong community by our esteemed charter member, the late Bob Vague.

The Rotary Foundation
So we can get our donations to Parramatta in good time, members are asked to bring in the contents of their money boxes (pre-counted and bagged) by the meeting of 24 May.
All members who would like to round up their Rotary Foundation contributions to Centurion or Sustaining Member level are of course invited to do so.

Defying The Drift
The vigour and viability of rural communities is a subject close to the heart of our great friend and fellow member, Stan Deans and hence Stan's enthusiasm and commitment to the Defying the Drift program which takes place at Marcus Oldham Farm Management College over 3 days.
It is designed for Year 9 and 10 students to encourage interest in careers which have a rural focus - whether farming and agricultural, health, the environment, teaching, commerce etc.
Members are asked to promote the program and Stan can provide more information and application forms.
The cost is minimal ($150.00 per student) and the potential return on this investment is incalculable.
Farewell to Tony
We were saddened to mark the occasion of the last meeting at our Club of our esteemed Past President Dr. Tony Della Porta as Tony is moving permanently to Sydney.
Tony's Rotary journey has been exciting to say the least - he was the Club President at the time of the introduction of women members - and through his strength of character, determination and vision in that and in all aspects of the work of Rotary locally and internationally our Club flourished.
Tony pioneered the concept of speakers crowd surfing at District Conferences....a little ahead of its time as the audience weren't as equipped to catch as Tony was to dive.
Tony has been a very active Rotarian and a person passionate about education and the pursuit of best practice in science, particularly in the study of infectious diseases.
We are proud and privileged to have had Tony as a member of our Club and we wish him well.
Tony was also presented with a Paul Harris Fellow Recognition second sapphire.
