We need Working With Children Checks for contact with our Exchange students. The application is done on line at the Department of Justice website and you need a photo and 100 ID points.
Those members who have not as yet completed, signed and returned to the Club Secretary the Consent to Publication forms distributed in June are asked to do so.

This program is still accepting Year 9/10 students. Last year our club arranged for 3 students to attend. This year the course is 28-30th September. We need our members to help find students for this year’s course. Please contact Sam or Stan.
The Rotary Foundation
Here is Committee chair Jonathan Hepner’s report:
The Rotary Foundation Committee asks you to continue to support the projects of the foundation in the following ways.
By supporting Every Rotarian, Every Year. Making a donation each year to the foundation.
By being a Centurion – That is, by contributing $100 Australian to the foundation Annually.
By being a Sustaining member, by contributing $100 US annually.
By being a Paul Harris Society Donor. That is, by agreeing to donation $1,000 US annually.
You can also be a Benefactor, a member of the Bequest Society or a Major Donor. Please see me if you would like to make a donation.
People who donate, or on their behalf a donation has been made can often be identified by the wearing of a Paul Harris Badge, a Saphire Badge, A Ruby badge, a Diamond badge, and maybe even the yellow wings which denotes the person has made a bequest in their will.
Our Committee continues encourage members to support the Foundation through Donations and the various fund raising events held throughout the year. While raising funds is important, raising awareness, especially about Polio eradication if also vital.
I encourage all members to keep their eyes and ears open to opportunities to look for projects where our committees can apply for grants from the District. These projects can be both here in Australia and also in other countries, such as the Well project Brian Humphrey has been involved in.
I have placed on the tables a Paul Harris Fellowship (and Saphire/Ruby) Nomination Form. The nominations committee would be glad to receive nominations from members at this time for their consideration. Please enter as much information as you can on the form, with supporting documents if required, and hand them to David Sykes or myself. The nomination is not restricted to Rotary Members. You can nominate members of the public as well.
District Shine On Awards 2016
Past President Graham Thomson asks us to consider nominating eligible persons to this award who are people who are actively involved in community service for the benefit of others and have demonstrated a significant level of achievement whilst managing a specific medical disorder/disability.
Nominations for the Rotary Southern Districts’ ‘Shine On’ recognition must be submitted by a Rotarian and approved by his/her Rotary Club. Prospective Nominees may be put forward by community organizations, clubs, associations or individuals aged 21 years and over.
Eligility:
- Australian citizenship (for at least three years)
- Individuals who have a specific disability and have consistently given dedicated service to the community
Categories:
- Young Nominees: aged 15 years to 25 years (at closing date for applications).
- Adult Nominees: aged 25 years and over.

News from Assistant Governor Past President Ross Taylor
Ride The Bellarine will be on again on 3 April or 25 October 2016 and so far 14 of the 15 Rotary Clubs are “on board” to make this another great Geelong region event.
Marketing and promotional skills are sought for the organizing committee.
District 9780 Groups 9 & 10 clubs are engaging with Bendigo and Adelaide Bank in a Team Membership program whereby Rotary will gain new members through teaming with a local Bendigo Bank branch and the Friends of Rotary program will also benefit.
We will hear more from AG Ross as this develops.
Fighting the Curse of Ice
The Rotary Club of Highton is the contact club for Rotary’s contribution to the community push to rid us of this drug and its damaging effects.
Clubs will be asked to contribute to the community education campaign including manning a stall at Market Square and Westfield over 12 and 16 October with training to be provided.
Our meeting on 15 September
This will be committee meetings at the Davidson Restaurant, not at Buckleys.
The meal will be served early so please arrive as close to 6.00 pm as possible please.

Dessert is a buffet table at which we may safely graze – as often as we like!....what famous poet lamented: “I grazed and grazed but little thought what weight to me the graze import…?
It is not too late – the more the merrier and some committees are a bit light on!

Melbourne Cup Calcutta with Geelong Central
We will move our meeting again this year to join with the Rotary Club of Geelong Central on Melbourne Cup eve in a fundraising event for the Geelong High School music program and Habitat for Humanity.
The venue is the North Geelong Football Club with more details to follow.
Legacy Badge Sales
David Beretta reported that he and his helpers sold $1,140.00 in Legacy badges on 3 and 4 September at Newcomb Central Shopping Centre.
A great effort and excellent public exposure for our Club doing good in our local community.
Lucinda Garrido - Rotary Peace Fellow
This Thursday evening 17 September at 6.30 pm at the meeting of the Rotary Club of Corio Bay at Berkeley Lodge, 258 Pakington Street, Geelong West, you can hear an address from Lucinda Garrino.
In 2010 Lucinda Garrido became District 9780’s first Rotary
Peace Fellow and commenced her studies at the Rotary
Peace Centre at the Universidad del Salvador (USAL) in
Buenos Aires, Argentina in February 2011. She completed
her Masters in International Studies (Peace & Conflict
Resolution), the University of Queensland graduating in 2013.
Since then she has worked for the United Nations, in Canberra and she now works for the Victorian Government.
The meal cost is $30.00 per head for 2 courses and you can book by contacting the Rotary Club of Corio Bay.
Rotaract Rocks
President Liz reported that the Rotaract Club of Barwon is growing its membership each week as more young people connect with the social and community service activities which Rotaract offers.
The Club as part of its international service activities will be assembling birthing kits on 27 September from 11.00 am and all Rotarians are welcome to assist.
